SOPHIA LAVROV
Sophia Lavrov is a twenty-one-year-old fine artist and entrepreneur based in Marin County and Berkeley, working throughout the Bay Area. Her core belief is making fine art accessible both economically and conceptually. This vision drives her diverse creative work, which ranges from affordable greeting cards to vulnerable oil paintings, and to grand-scale public murals. Sophia's art aims to connect with people by offering a window into her life and the broader human condition.

Her watercolor stationery business, Sophia Lavrov Designs, marks her first professional creative endeavor, which she has owned and operated since age fifteen. Sophia sells greeting cards and stickers throughout Northern California in local shops and grocery stores. She also works alongside clients, racking up a colorful range of projects. Some have included creating custom greeting cards, consulting about stationery packaging for a start-up medical furniture company, and transforming hospital shipping containers into beautiful natural scapes. She also applies her skills to teaching greeting card workshops and art classes. In particular, Sophia has experience teaching fine art to children, working for the Do Art and Studio 4 Art children's studios in San Rafael and Novato, being a summer camp, class, and party instructor. With her varied experiences, Sophia has a well-rounded artist background in retail, design, and teaching.
In her personal practice, Sophia also explores figurative representation, personal narratives, and satire to showcase the vulnerable, uncomfortable, guttural facets of life. She enhances this rawness by painting realistically, and Sophia also leans into pathos and emotion by playing with non-representational color and gestural brushwork. By painting honest portraits and figurative vignettes from her life, Sophia allows herself to process, accept, and understand the vulnerable. She dually hopes to reflect the raw moments, skewed characters, and nuanced circumstances of others–even if it means thrusting her life into the limelight.

Currently, Sophia is an Art Practice major at UC Berkeley, where she wishes to explore further, conceptualize, and push the boundaries of painting and share it with others. Regardless of which direction she goes, Sophia always aims to bridge connection through art.
