Zoomorphic Realities
Oil on canvas, bed sheets, embroidery floss
Date
Fall 2023-present
Through sewn, sculptural animal paintings, what I call “zoomorphic realities,” I have found a playful way to paint about my family and friends while maintaining their anonymity.
Synthesizing my love of fine art and admiration for craft, these oil-painted stuffed animals, superimposed over painted canvas backgrounds, allow me to say a lot. These animal caricatures characterize people in my life based on how I view and interpret their personalities, dispositions, and relationships with each other. I draw from tropes on animals, such as appearance, size, strength, and intelligence, to satirize human behavior.
